Noli de Castro Awkward Interview With Miss International Kylie Verzosa, Draws Criticisms

ABS-CBN broadcaster Noli De Castro was heavily criticized on Twitter after he made an awkward interview with Miss International 2016 Kylie Verzosa, last Friday, October 28, via TV Patrol. The former vice president was then asking newly crowned beauty queen if she has a boyfriend, and she said, 'None.” Watch the video below of that segment and be the judge.
As you can hear it clearly, Noli de Castro asked Kylie Verzosa, “May boyfriend ka na? (Do you have a boyfriend?)” The latter replied, “No, korona lang (No, just a crown).” The two laughed, but Kabayan immediately commented, “Lungkot naman niyan (That’s sad).” He then thanked Kylie, and was about to end the interview when the beauty queen reacted. Meanwhile, Kylie Verzosa is the 6th Filipina who won Miss International crown. The first one was Gemma Cruz-Araneta back in 1964. She was followed by Aurora Pijuan in 1970, and then Melanie Marquez in 1971. The other Miss International winners from the Philippines are Precious Lara Quigaman (2005) and Bea Rose Santiago (2013).
Incidentally, President Rodrigo Duterte was on his state visit to Japan when the Miss International 2016 beauty pageant was held. A day before the pageant, Kylie Verzosa had a seflie with President Duterte. Upon returning to the Philippines, the president congratulated her for winning. He said many Filipinas are beautiful, except those at the CHR (Commission on Human Rights).

  1. It was indeed awkward and a very SEXIST comment on the part of Noli. Kylie properly ended her reply with a curt "Oo" instead of the honorable "Opo" to let him know where he stand for his discriminatory comment. Bravo to Kylie for standing-up to this form of cyber-bully!
